One day, I came across a few posts on Threads from people who shared their experience in drinking celery juice every day. I sort of looked up the internet about it and decided to take advantage of a holiday discount at the end of last year to buy a juicer and give it a try. Hmm, after a few runs, we felt that it was not bad and acceptable—but we probably wouldn’t be as dedicated as those strict celery juice detox followers on the internet.
Celery juice is a great and healthy juice. Besides being rich in water content, it also contains many beneficial vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin A, C, and K, as well as sodium, potassium, folate, and polyphenolic compounds, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps with gut cleansing and detoxification, reducing water retention, maintaining cardiovascular health, stabilizing blood sugar levels, and improving sleep quality.
My husband and I actually drank it on and off about two to three weeks, but only around 250cc each time. At first, we drank it in the early morning, but later, due to the rush of getting ready to work and taking the kids to school—and because it was simply too cold to drink in the winter morning —we switched to drinking it on an empty stomach in the afternoon before dinner. It was much better.
My husband didn’t feel much difference after drinking it, but for me, the most noticeable effect was improved sleep! On the days I drank celery juice, I would sleep soundly through the night. Also, after drinking it, my body felt full, so I didn’t find myself snacking mindlessly before dinner like I used to. As for other potential health benefits, I might need more time to notice any significant changes.
One important thing to point out is that because celery juice is rich in potassium and sodium, it may not be suitable for everyone. People who are taking anticoagulant medication or those with kidney disease should probably avoid it. The best way is to consult with your physician before you decide to give it a try.
Okay now let’s talk about the taste! I need to be honest with you. The taste of celery juice is definitely not very platable. The first time I drank it, all I could taste was how salty it was, along with a weird vegetable flavor—I’m guessing that’s the taste of potassium. The kids couldn’t accept it at all, so for them, I mixed it with other fruits and vegetables like apples, tomatoes, and carrots. That made it much tastier—just like the bottled mixed fruit and vegetable juice I used to drink as a kid! Haha.
If nothing unexpected happens, I’ll probably continue having it with my husband a few times a week. As for the leftover pulp from juicing, since I’m used to whole-food eating, I like to reuse it and make some yummy veggie pancakes. They’re super easy to make—just mix some celery pulp with a few tablespoons of chickpea flour, all-purpose flour, one egg, some grated carrot, chopped scallions, minced garlic, and seasoning. Then I pan-fry them with light oil, and they’re ready to eat! Served with a simple sesame oil and soy sauce dip, they’re incredibly satisfying (see image below)!

Finally, let’s talk about this rather pricey Korean juicer—the Hurom H400. Back at the time I was searching for the juicer, I also considered another brand, the Nama J2. After going through all the online reviews, I decided to go with the Hurom since it’s slightly easier to clean. I also found a 10% discount code when I placed an order. Not bad!
Since this was our first time using a juicer, my husband and I found it really fascinating. It’s quite tall, operates quietly, and the parts are easy to clean. The pulp it produces is fairly dry, which means good juice extraction. I also heard that it can make nut milk—something I’ll definitely try in the future! 🙂
Over the years being in love with healthy eating, my philosophy is to try different things but not follow trends blindly. It’s important to adjust based on your own body’s needs. Take celery juice, for example—we may not be able to drink 500cc every day, but learning about its nutritional benefits and incorporating it into our diet in a way that works for us is still a great choice. 🙂
Ps. A source that talks extensively about the benefits of celery juice is the book “Medical Medium Celery Juice: The Most Powerful Medicine of Our Time Healing Millions Worldwide“. If you’re interested, you might want to check it out. But personally, I don’t think I can commit to drinking it daily. The author Anthony William also mentions that to achieve the best detox effects, you should completely avoid using metal cookware. For me, that would take quite a bit of effort, so for now, I think I will focus on carefully selecting safer cookware instead.
