
從疫情期間開始返回工作崗位之後, 沒幾年髖關節就開始時不時出現異常疼痛, 一直到去年跌倒後初期長時間坐著休養睡覺, 這個問題就變的嚴重起來了. 今年春天開始陸續出現膝蓋外側與小腿麻刺痛, 甚至痛到無法入睡或是睡到痛醒, 這才認真的去看了骨科(Osteopedics). 一看才發現我這個髖關節疼痛的毛病應該是因為先天結構異常, 又加上久坐就造成了髖關節軟骨撕裂(labral tear)引起的. Since returning to work after the pandemic, I started to develop pain in the right hip area. The condition got worse after a severe fall last year, during which I spent quite a long time sitting and resting. Starting this spring, I’ve begun to experience tingling pain on the outer side of my knee and in my lower calf, sometimes to the point where I can’t fall asleep or wake up in pain. 😦 This was a wake up call for me to see an orthopedic specialist. After taking an X-ray, the doctor pointed out that my hip pain is likely due to the hip dysplasia. After years of long sitting at work and recuperating from the injury, it caused a tear in the hip labral cartilage.
Mayo Clinics對於labral tear有蠻簡要的介紹, 另外University of Penn 醫學院 也解釋了Hip dysplasia 導致labral tear的病狀. 簡單來說, 這個O型的軟骨組織是用來讓球狀髖關節可以緊密的很好的包覆在骨窩裡頭(socket). 由於我天生球窩很淺無法很好的包住髖關節, 長年下來身體的活動就可能會讓這個組織受損. 醫生認真的跟我解釋治療的方案. 目前我的情況還在初期不是很嚴重, 首要先以物理治療為主, 加上根據疼痛程度來吃非類固醇的消炎藥. 一個半月之後如果沒有改善, 就必須考慮照MRI 然後來決定是否可用打針緩解疼痛或是動微創手術來修補破損的組織. In simple words, this crescent-shaped cartilage helps the ball-shaped hip joint fit tightly and securely within the socket. Since I was born with a shallow socket that cannot adequately cover the hip joint, years of physical activity may have damaged this cartilage. The doctor explained the treatment options to me for my condition. Currently, it is still in the early stages so he suggested me to do physical therapy first, along with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs depending on the pain level. If there is no improvement after one and half months, I would need to consider taking MRI to decide which treatment might be the best for me, either injections to relieve the pain or minimally invasive surgery to repair the damaged tissue.
醫生也發了一系列可以幫助伸展跟緩解髖關節疼痛的運動給我. 再加上復健醫生這接下來一兩個月的持續治療, 希望我的髖關節能因為加強下半身肌肉減輕給它們的壓力. 自己也得提醒自己吃好睡好, 確保足夠的蛋白質攝取,以及多喝水加強代謝掉身體因為吃消炎藥造成的一些負擔. The doctor also send me a reference of series of exercises to stretch and strength the muscle in order to relieve hip joint pain gradually. With the physical therapy over the next month or two, I hope that strengthening my lower body muscles will be able to reduce the pressure on my hip joints. I also need to remind myself to eat well and sleep well, ensure adequate protein intake, and drink plenty of water to help flush toxins out of my body faster since I am taking the anti-inflammatory medication.
Ps. I am taking the meloxicam 15mg, 1 tablet per day as needed. Indicated by the doctor, I would need to take it 7 days straight once I decided to take it if I feel the pain. After one week I don’t have to take it if the pain eases. If later I feel the pain comes back and becomes severe, I would need to start the 7 days medication again.
