We adopted our two cats from a local rescue organization. When they came, they were only eight months old, and now it’s been seven years in the blink of an eye!!! They have been in good health overall, except for the first six months when they had tapeworms and fleas, and Blaky the male cat had severe diarrhea which almost took his life. Over the years, they have mostly been eating chicken breast with premix powder, occasional dry food, and canned food. They barely had any health issues.
My friend has a cute kitty and he has suffered from teething issues since he was little which concerns her so much. Thinking the years back, it looks like my cats both didn’t have major issues with teeth. I have to confess that I rarely brush both of their teeth. I did once when Blaky had bad breath and I noticed his gum was kinda red. I bought a cat toothpaste and brushed his teeth a few times. After one week or so, the problem disappeared!
I want to share some tips that I find useful for dental care for my cats! Maybe one of them might help your cat.
我家的兩隻貓是我們從一個救援團體領養來的. 它們來的時候才八個月大, 一轉眼已經七個年頭. 他們從kitten到現在即將邁入老年, 健康方面一直都算好. 除了一開始那半年除蟲跟胖B經歷過嚴重拉肚子, 這些年他們的飲食大部分只吃雞胸肉, 偶爾的乾糧跟罐頭, 兩隻都白胖得很. 想起朋友家的小貓幼時起牙的情況就很讓她煩惱, 我想起我家貓的牙倒是也沒太大問題. 我是個懶人, 鮮少幫他們刷牙. 只有胖B牙齒黃嘴巴味道不好那回我買了個貓牙膏刷刷. 爾後問題就沒了. 這篇就來說說我覺得對我家的貓顧齒有用的撇步吧!

My cats rarely eat raw food. In the first few years of having them, I came across suggestions for giving cats frozen chicken wings to chew on as a simple dental care treat. Chewing on the frozen chicken wings will help to remove the plaque on their teeth. I tried it once, and Blaky liked it, almost finishing the whole thing. Elsa didn’t seem to enjoy it at all, though. For cat owners who are open to the idea of feeding raw food, you might want to give it a try. 我家貓很少吃生食. 剛養他們的頭幾年看過貓有提過可以給他們啃咬冷凍過的雞小翅, 當成簡單的顧齒品, . 我只給他們試過一回. 胖B喜歡, 整隻吃到剩一點. 但是Elsa就不愛了. 可以接受貓吃生食的貓友們不妨試試.
3. Cardboard Box 紙箱
Cats’ obsessive love for cardboard boxes is something many cat owners are familiar with. My female cat, Elsa, has an inexplicable fondness for cardboard. She enjoys using her teeth to create holes in any cardboard box I give them, similar to stapling one circle after another with a stapler, XD And guess what? Her teeth are impeccably white and clean. Having them over the years, I’ve noticed that her hobby of making holes in boxes coincidentally provides her with opportunities for dental cleaning! This is just the same logic behind chewing dental sticks! Comparing her brother, Blaky who is just lazy and doesn’t share Elsa’s enthusiasm for cardboard hole-punching, his teeth are not as white as his sister’s! 貓愛紙箱這應該是很多貓友們知道的事. 我家的母貓Elsa對紙紙箱有莫名的熱愛. 她喜歡用牙打洞, 就像釘書機一樣地一圈一圈的釘, 熱此不疲. 她的牙每一顆都潔白無比. 養了他們七年多, 我一路觀察下來, 貓咪愛打洞的嗜好剛好給了貓潔牙的機會. 這個習慣就跟啃潔牙棍相同的道理了. 哈哈. 因為對照組胖B天性慵懶就沒有Elsa來的勤勞, 不愛啃紙箱跟打洞的他, 牙還真的沒有他妹白啊~~~
4. Toothpaste for Cats 貓的潔牙膏
In the first year of having Elsa and Blaky, the male cat Blaky experienced bad breath and gum inflammation once. At that time, using a damp cotton cloth to clean his teeth and gum didn’t help much. Later, a friend of mine recommended this brand of toothpaste to me. After using it a few times and adjusting his diet (alternating between dry food and chicken breast), his gum inflammation resolved on its own. Both Elsa and Blaky like the smell and flavor of this toothpaste, especially Blaky who thought it was just another yummy treat; he eagerly licks it when I brush his teeth every time. XD Overall, this brand is a good choice. It comes in a variety of flavors, including chicken, beef, seafood, vanilla mint, and malt. You may give it a try if you want to do oral care for your cats on a regular routine. 胖B在頭一年養他的時候出現過一次口氣不好以及牙齦發炎的情況. 那時我用棉布沾水清理也沒啥用. 後來朋友推薦我買了這牌潔牙膏. 我用了幾次, 再加上調整飲食(用乾糧跟雞胸肉輪流餵食), 後來她的牙齦發炎自己就好了. 他們對這牌牙膏接受度百分百, 胖B是直接以為是零食一刷牙他就拼命地舔. XD 總之, 這款還是不錯的, 口味選擇不少, 除了雞肉,還有牛肉, 海鮮, 香草薄荷, 麥芽等. 也推薦給想給寵物刷牙的朋友們~
